Away for a little bit

My health has taken a bit of a bad turn and I have no scheduled posts left… if I feel up to it I might do one but I feel horrific. Not any time soon. That’s why it’s been over a week since my last post. My giveaway IS still running though. I just am not up to writing posts and blog stuffs. If you need me you can get me via email or twitter, see contact page.

Thank goodness for mobiles, eh?

NOTD 09102011

Okay, so it’s today’s date but these are my nails from Friday. Today I have silver and black nails although most came off in the bath… there will be a review on that later…

For now though, quick NOTD post here. Wish I did some fancy birthday nails. Heh.

I loveeee the colour of this polish. Wish I did a third coat though. But I ended up peeling it off later in the bath anyway. Yup, this polish PEELS off. Not very hardwearing.

Yeah yeah, the bottle is weird, I got the gift set of the 5 No.7 minis in Boots on the 3 for 2.

MUA Professional Palette – Glitter Ball

I’ve been after the MUA Pro range for a while now. I’ve umm’d and ahh’d about buying them online but I always concluded that no, I wasn’t going to.

My Superdrug now finally stock the MUA pro range. In fact, last time I went, they didn’t stock MUA at all! All the MUA products I already had, I’d gotten when I was living in Birmingham, in fact, I’d honestly not bought any MUA products since they launched. Not for any reason really, just I’d bought all of the monos that took my fancy (which was pretty much most of them) and a lipstick to try.

I loved the Monos on first go. I was surprised at their quality for only costing a pound. I’ve been lusting after their pro palettes since I heard about their release. For £4? I’m in heaven!

Even though my Superdrug now had the range, they only had 2 palettes in stock. I couldn’t afford to get both of them. I wasn’t sure which one to get, they were similar ish. This one was darker and seemed slightly more season appropriate, suits me more too. Plus the mister also decided I should go for this one too!

My initial impression, dipping my mitts in to the palette, wasn’t great. Only right at the start though. The black was gritty and sort of stiff? It didn’t transfer or blend very well. The ONLY let down in this palette! In my own opinion at least. It’ pleasantly surprised me actually. The colours look to have glitter chunks in them, and after the charcoal, I was expecting them to be gritty in texture. They actually felt quite smooth and applied nicely. I really like the reddish gold. (2nd on 2nd row.) It’s like a gold with red flecks. They were rather pigmented, blended not amazingly, but good enough. Average. Can’t complain with the price and most definitely usable and definitely will purchase others.I was expecting them to blend worse actually to be honest; considering the very high amount of shimmer.

Here are the swatches!

Even the lighter colours are quite pigmented. I’m sure you can guess by now, this palette impressed me. I can’t wait to try and come up with a look with this palette!

MUA is available in store at Superdrug and online. Their Pro Palettes cost £4 or you can try their monos for £1 each.

BeautyUK Lip Lust – 03 Date Night

Honestly? I was never really one for lip glosses. A bit of vasaline always did me just fine. But ever since I had my make over on the Beauty Bus and they used this beauty on my lips, I have been converted! They used this exact lip lust – date night. It was my favourite thing. I hadn’t even considered trying it previously.

There is plenty in a tube, and it’s bursting with colour. The lip gloss has a fuzzy applicator. This is the only thing I don’t like about this product. I’m picky. I’m not fond of lip gloss applicators for squeezy tube glosses. However, the applicator does actually unscrew. (It is unscrewed in the first image) I gave the applicator a go none the less but as I figured, I didn’t like it, so I unscrewed it and there is enough room to dip in a lip brush so you don’t waste product, or you can squeeze some on to the back of your hand if you prefer, either with or without the applicator. Your choice!

As you can see, it is well pigmented. It applies nicely and doesn’t feel too tacky on your lips. A bonus. The main reason I actually disliked lip glosses to be honest!

Budget brands are really out doing themselves lately! I love this lip lust! I give them a thumbs up for sure.

You can purchase these for £2.99 at Superdrug in store, online or at BeautyUK online.

17 Fast Finish Nail Polish – Sulk

17 recently released a few new polishes. I liked quite a few but had some similar to what was released. Now in all honesty, I’ve tried only half a dozen 17 polishes to date and some of those where when I was much younger. Out of all of them, this polish grabbed me the most. I thought it was perfect for Christmas.

This polish looks fabulous. I’d seen one other person post on it and gave it a positive review so I didn’t have to think about it twice.

Unfortunately, I didn’t come to the same conclusion as the blogger who’s review I read. I honestly can’t remember who’s blog I saw it on… So I applied this polish. I figured 2 coats. I got that right. The application was terrible. It seemed okay at a glance, but using it properly, while the consistency of the polish itself was smooth, application was chuggy and difficult. I had to get out the cotton buds and clean up my nails. First coat was so patchy! Second coat? Not so bad. Application was a little smoother and the polish became opaque. It does dry pretty quickly. Over all, it looks decent, wearable, but it isn’t too smooth. Although I have not applied a top coat which could very well solve that.

Over all, I wasn’t too impressed. It’s a gorgeous shade, just the application lets it down, Especially with the standard of budget brands on the rise, a new bar has been set and this doesn’t quite make the cut. I think I still will be putting this polish to use though. It is still usable.Would I recommend it? No, I wouldn’t. But it’s not a polish I’m going to chuck in the bin either.

17 Polishes are available at Boots in store and online for £2.99

September Stuffs

Here are a few things I treated myself to the past month. Money is kind of tight here so I can’t go on my usual shopping binge. It’s 2 for £8 on books in tesco, so I got a couple of books. Which I have yet to read. Also got me a new handbag for less than £2 and it’s pretty much new off of ebay! (I checked it thoroughly when it arrived, no marks, scuffs or anything and it still has silica gel in it and everything.) And the camera pendant for 99p.

I frigging adore this pendant. I really really do. It’s gorgeous and it totally suits me with my photography enthusiasm. It’s a little birthday present to myself as it is my birthday on Sunday. :)

What have you purchased recently?

BeautyUK No.82 – Frozen Kingdom

This is the polish used in my most recent NOTD post. BeautyUK No.82 – Frozen Kingdom from their salon professional range.

I won this polish as I won their Beauty Bus Tour and this was one of the awesome things I got in my goody bag! I know, I know. I review a lot of BeautyUK stuff. What can I say, I love the brand!

I’ve always been intimidated by light colours. Especially the idea of painting my nails white. More so on their own. You saw in my NOTD post I “iced” this polish, but honestly? I could actually wear this on its own. That’s how much I like it!

This polish has the perfect amount of shimmer. Being white, I was expecting to need a few coats. It was opaque in two!

The application was pretty much the same as usual for BeautyUK polishes. Smooth, applies nicely. I have no complaints! The formula seems thin/watery at a glance but opaque in two coats. Maybe it’s just because it’s a pale colour…

Conclusion? Me likey! BeautyUK have converted me from fearing white polish to embracing it!

BeautyUK Salon Professional range costs £2.49 and is available online or at Superdrug in store.
