Max Factor Max Effect Mini Nail Polish – Fantasy Fire

Post Updated: See edit at the bottom of the post. *facepalm* I’ve had numerous messages telling me it’s meant to be layered, several of these have just been downright rude and I’ve deleted them, well a couple of comments and a few e-mails.) it’s all well trying to “tell” me something but to be all omg r u stupid.. no. get stuffed when you can’t even write a sentence in English. I’m not a beauty expert, I just write my honest opinions. I know now it is meant to be layered, so stop telling me!

Pictures just can not capture the extrodinary beauty of this polish. I saw its gleaming pearlescent colours and just had to get my hands on it. £3.99 for a tiny polish though… The other couple of Max Factor minis were great though and this is just one that HAD to be added to my collection. Plus things have been so horrible lately, I deserved it. Going in to Superdrug to get their wipes but no make up would have been torture anyway.

I’ve looked on the net, and I can’t find much about this polish… strange. I wanted to see if others had the same experience as I did. It’s a beautiful looking polish and it looks good on… eventually!

Blue and purple with copper shimmer. Looks pretty doesn’t it? Unfortunatley, to get it to look this good, I had to apply SIX coats! It is so thin on. And of course, what happens when you put lots of coats of polish on? If you don’t sit there for an hour not touching anything, they get messed up. That and of course, it’s a mini, there isn’t much in a bottle anyway. So how much can you get out of it? Only time will tell. Who is patient enough to do 6 coats anyway? It took ageeeees. I just really wanted to see how it’d look in the end. Perhaps a blue base coat first might be good and then paint this stuff over it. I’m not even sure. I don’t know how many coats you’d need as this is my first pearlescent polish, but I was thinking three, maybe four?

As beautiful as this polish is, I don’t think I’d repurchase before experimenting more (as I have a feeling if I use this a couple more times, it’ll be empty!)

EDIT: As people keep seeming to miss this despite linking it to numerous people, here is it layered, as it should be, posted a few days later. *sigh* And both of my posts were still the first posts to come up on google at the time so I had no info on this and have never had a “layering” polish like this before, so I didn’t know. See the other post. I know it’s meant to be layered. I did not when I first tried this and wrote this post, so please, stop telling me things I already know.

Max Effect Mini Nail Polishes are £3.99 and are available in Superdrug, Boots and online.

Y’know, I didn’t know that Max Factor sold mini’s. I have a pink one that came in a gift bag, but I didn’t know that you could buy them in mini!!

Absolutely gorgeous colour, but then I’m a sucker for purple, as you erm, well….might just have noticed *ahem*

First one I’ve bought. I got a couple in a box when I bought 2 max factor items in boots (same time I got the 17 set, I meant to post but never had time) you got this free tin thing with lots of mini things. It’s a shame it takes so many coats, its gorgeous. x

yes, the 6 coats thing is a bugger but omg what a divine colour xx

    • http://benebelle.com Elizabeth Fleming

Worth that many coats to you? The colour is gorgeous. I had to keep on going. It’s just so pretty.

Girl, t’s meant to be layered. You need to layer it over a dark purple, blue or black to truly appreciate it.

I’m going to go ahead and quote myself here. “Perhaps a blue base coat first might be good and then paint this stuff over it. ” I also said on Twitter that the electric blue polish from BeautyUK works really well as a base. Though it doesn’t look a whole lot different, it’s a lot less coats.

This is such a pretty colour … pain having to do it 6 times though !

    • http://benebelle.com Elizabeth Fleming

Aye. But I dunno if you saw my tweet but it goes really well over that electric blue colour from BeautyUK! x

  • Riquelme

    Pretttttyyyyyyyyy

    • http://benebelle.com Elizabeth Fleming

      Isn’t it! :D

  • http://twitter.com/Ameides Sarsha

SO PRETTY! Such a pity about 6 coats though, I get annoyed having to do 4 with a couple of my polishes

    • http://benebelle.com Elizabeth Fleming

Having a blue base works pretty well though. Or purple if you prefer it more purpley. :D

      • http://twitter.com/Ameides Sarsha

It looks so nice by itself though </3

        • http://benebelle.com Elizabeth Fleming

Well with Electric Blue by BeautyUK it’s pretty much the same colour.

  • Dina Ramse

I got the Emerald one from this collection, and I was struggling as well to get it to work. Did 2 coats, and was hoping for magic, and was so disappointed. Will give it 6 coats as well, and see if it works better.

I wanted to get that when I found out it was actually a new collection, didn’t know, just magically had appeared! Maybe try it over a normal green base? All my other polishes from Max Factor look great. x

  • Scottish Lass

This is meant to be a layering polish over other colors like Clarins 230. But it’s really pretty!

I did say I thought so, also, http://benebelle.com/2012/01/16/fantasy-fire-with-barry-m-bright-purple-base/ I did a follow up post with it over a base. :) It is gorgeous though but not overly hard wearing, even over a base. Compared to your usual polish anyways. Tried it over a few polishes now. None the less, it’s gorgeous! Max Factor did well here.

It looks brilliant over BarryM Indigo. Just one coat. Six is silly, especially when it’s still not opaque.

So many choices for a base that look brilliant *nods* I did a post a couple of days later about it with a base, not realising it was meant to be a layering polish (though figured though out after) especially when Max Factor have never offered anything like this before (that I have seen at least) and there was absolutley nothing returning google searches when I bought it. I do quite like how it looks on its own though.
